Kay's Kafe: Reviews & Ratings
This is a hidden gem indeed! The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. The pancake was the size of a hubcap and very tasty. It's an open kitchen, so you can see your food being prepared fresh. Our waitress Placida was charming and pleasant, watching to see if anything was needed from across the room. All the staff was very welcoming and genuinely happy to be helping. John, the owner, introduced himself and gave us some history on the property. He is proud of his business and it shows. Most definitely will be back and I encourage all to give this Cafe a try.
Ive heard of this place for a long time and me and my family finally decided to try it out. We loved it. We liked the "old fahion diner" feel. It felt like family and everything we got tasted as if they made it at home. The staff was friendly and the place was very clean. It's definitely a hidden gem and people that go there look like consistent locals. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because it was a tad bit expensive and the tip was included in the bill but other than that I would definitely rank this place as one of my top 3 breakfast places!
I hope we aint giving away the neighborhood secret!!! But then again, I HOPE WE ARE!! Why have we never tried this place before?! Kay's Kafe is located in an industrial kinda area. You wouldnt even expect to find a place to eat here...but there it is! The Service is Top Notch and the Food is Amazing!! Not to mention the crazy portion sizes. Bravo Kay's!! We will definately be back when we are in the area and looking for GOOD FOOD!!!
My wife, my Ma, and I went here originally 6+ years ago and thought it was fantastic. After my wife passed My Ma and I frequently went here at least once a month. We stopped when the pandemic hit. Went back once after and were very happy to see the owner still there. We moved out of state and been gone some years now. Recently moved back and went and had breakfast 03/19/2025. Food still fantastic, service still amazing, and so happy to see the owner is still there! Their beans and tamales are the best I've had in the area!
The food was good. The place was clean. Friendly staff. Nice place to go. Definitely worth going. The beans were delicious. The water was cold and they had crushed ice .
1/31/26: Kay's is a hidden gem -- and I mean hidden. It's location is not very "restaurant-y" in that it is located in an industrial area. There's what looks to be an auto junk yard to the east, a truck service place to the north, and a couple other mechanical (?) businesses immediately off 43rds Ave. We pulled in to a driveway paved with ornamental bricks, a javelina in the fake grass area (yes, it was a fake javelina), and a fairly busy cafe. We popped in this particular Saturday around 10 am & it was pretty bustling yet we were able to be seated immediately. One of the servers quickly brought us waters, and shortly after that another came to take our order. We ordered a mango tea & peach lemonade, which came in large mason jars. My lemonade was the best of the two (it had a stronger flavor). The meals we got were the orange cream cheese stuffed French toast (they had to sub strawberries) and the big Kay's Texas burrito. When the gal returned w/ our drinks, she was extremely thoughtful & brought me mini tastings of the red & green sauce because I couldn't decide which to choose. All of it was delicious. We expect to return & try items from their lunch menu. So yes, I would recommend Kay's Kafe.
A real vintage treat! This dinner has been around for about 30 years as far as I know, and the owner has been working hard to keep it running! It has an old-school diner feel to it, with plenty of spacing for larger events and gatherings. The food was great, the burrito was awesome and the hash browns were tasty too. The pancake very fluffy but just a bit chewier than I enjoy. The French toast had great flavor and the presentation was very classy. Chicken fried steak was great, not too soggy or mushy. All in all a good spot to bring your family on a Saturday or Sunday morning for a nice relaxed start to the day!
Excellent breakfast foods today, and great service if pricey! pancakes, waffles, eggs, hash browns, bacon sausage and more! $4.25 apple juice for the kids is a bit excessive Cafe feel with concrete floor and fluorescent lighting.Tucked in location with plenty of parking. Private room for 30 available. Thank you from your Tucson friends
